Love

2004
The exhibition was a part of the ‘Glasgow City of Love’ festival, a desperate marketing event launched by the council on the claim that the relics of St Valentine lie in a Glasgow church. I researched British Popular Music Charts since their creation in 1952, listing all songs with the word Love in their title which made number one. I then asked a male and female with strong Glasgwegian accents to read the list and recorded it as a sound piece. The piece gives an impression of a strange love poem, at times humourous, at times serious. When presented, the sound would come on every 4 minutes simultaneously with a red lightbulb. The listing, classification and repetition represents an ongoing theme in my work. It was shown at the Office, a vacant shop unit in Glasgow and again in September 2007 at the exhibition ‘Nature and society’ at the Ethnographic Museum of Dubrovnik, Croatia.
